Bio.
Mark is a Specialist General Practitioner with expertise in obesity and metabolic health. He is the founder of Perth Weight Clinic, a multidisciplinary primary care service established in 2022 to support evidence-based obesity treatment.
In 2025, Mark was awarded Recognition of Extended Skills in Obesity Management by the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP)—a national pathway he helped develop as part of a dedicated College working group. He serves as the Western Australia lead for the RACGP Obesity Specific Interest Group where he supports healthcare practitioner education and advocates for improved access to care for people living with obesity.
Mark is also a Horizon mentor, supporting the professional development of healthcare practitioners in obesity care (sponsored by Novo Nordisk), an Australian Heart Foundation Taskforce member, working on a consensus statement for clinical priorities in obesity and cardiovascular disease, and chairs a national multi-stakeholder advocacy group working on equitable access to treatment for people living with obesity. Mark’s research interests lie in the field of obesity care, weight bias and stigma, with several ongoing collaborative academic partnerships with Curtin University.
Mark holds SCOPE certification in obesity management (World Obesity Federation) and a Postgraduate Diploma in Obesity and Weight Management from the University of South Wales. He is an experienced speaker and educator, regularly presenting to medical and allied health practitioners, and provides strategic advisory services to healthcare organisations and industry partners focused on improving models of obesity care. He is an active member of the Australian and New Zealand Obesity Society (ANZOS) and the National Association of Clinical Obesity Services (NACOS).
